Green weddings and helping the environment

We are really excited about helping push the Green Wedding movement forward both here in Santa Barbara and nationally.

In April the Santa Barbara News Press published an article about green weddings here in Santa Barbara. We were able to help contribute to their article in which they chatted with some of our past clients as well as interviewed/featured us. You can view the article on our website by clicking here.

As wedding photographers we are trying to help set an example with our business through more than just turning the lights off at the right time. Here are just a few of the things we're doing along with some of our thoughts on going green:

  • work from home with no commute to the office
  • focus on paperless communication
  • utilize companies that are able to communicate with us electronically - bills are always received electronically when possible
  • limit our promotions to electronic formats. If/when we do a promotion on paper we work to utilize recycled paper. All of our pricing/package information is delivered to clients email
  • don't dispose of used electric equipment, we find new homes for it where it can continue to be used rather than filling a landfill
  • purchase nothing but the highest quality electronics so that they are not constantly wearing out and needing replacement
  • use only rechargeable batteries for our cameras and flashes
  • use electronic calendars vs. printed calendars for scheduling
  • recycle our printer cartridges and have them re-filled when possible vs throwing them away and buying new ones
  • only own one car and share it between the two of us
  • turn our computer monitors off at night

    • While these are all great ways to help the environment, we feel that going green has more to do with your awareness of your daily life. As wedding photographers, this doesn't mean choosing between film and digital photography, as both create their own kinds of waste. Rather, it's choosing to sort out recyclables from normal garbage, purchasing less "junk" so that we contribute less to environmental waste and much more.

    Being a green wedding photographer, we do have package options with more green materials used. Our Couture Wedding Album line of books has an option of wedding albums which are created using 100% post consumer recycled paper, are created in a plant which is 100% run off of wind energy and so on. Small things like this add up, and supporing companies who are going to these lengths helps to promote going green on a much larger scale than we could ever do on our own.
